Morning, all!

So far we have a few creators claiming posting dates, though I'm expecting a couple more to pop in. In the meantime, I've started assigning dates, and listed them below. (Let me know if you have concerns, but no one is listed for a date they said they couldn't make.)

If any more creators out there want to claim a posting date - whether or not your creation relates to a specific prompt - please feel free to comment against the check-in post. The more the merrier! ♥
Thank you, all! {burbles incoherently}

Comments to this post are NOT screened.

I am so looking forward to seeing what you've been creating for this fest!

It is now time for creators to check in and claim their posting dates. We'll begin by assuming posting dates from Tuesday 1 May to Monday 7 May 2018 inclusive. We can always continue longer if we need to!

Please check in and stake your claim in a new comment directly under this post. If you have more than one fanwork to post, then use a new comment and claim a different date for each one.

Copy-and-paste the template provided in the box below.

Complete the template with the following details.

  • Your name(s): The name(s) you'll be posting under, including any collaborators. It is perfectly fine to post anonymously.

  • Title: The title of your fanwork. Don't worry if it's a working title for now! Just something to identify it.

  • Fanwork type: The nature of your fanwork, as defined in this post: Fic / Drabble set / Art / Icon set / Fanmix / Fanvid / Other (please specify).

  • Character(s) and/or Pairing(s): Who are the main characters?

  • Your preferred date(s): On which date(s) between 1 and 7 May inclusive would you prefer to post? If you list a few dates, I'll assume they are in order of preference.

  • Date(s) you CANNOT post: Are there any date(s) on which you absolutely CANNOT post?

Comments to this post are screened. Therefore, as soon as things start taking shape, I will post a separate 'posting schedule'. I'll also friend those of you I haven't already (if you don't mind!) so we can discuss any queries or problems via PM.

Planning ahead…

If life happens (as it is wont to do), and you cannot post on your scheduled date, please don't hesitate to contact me (or comment on this post), and we'll come up with a Plan B.

If you switch dates with other participants, that's fine – but please do let me know ahead of time!

If you end up finishing an extra fanwork before the end of the fest, please comment against this post. I'm more than happy to add more posting dates if called for!

Information about posting will be available soon. I am so looking forward to 1 May!

Thank you very much, everyone. We have received 6 11 many (!) lovely prompts. That's a nice number to go on with, but I think I'll leave prompting open just in case we can snare any more. Also, if you create something in the meantime that's unrelated to a prompt, you can still claim a posting date when it comes time, if you'd like to share it via the fest.

Please read the Prompts and Claims Guidelines and the Fills Guidelines before claiming.

Then go to the POST YOUR PROMPTS! CLAIM THE PROMPTS! post and:

  • Claim by replying directly to the prompt-comment.

  • Mention what kind of fanwork you are creating for this prompt, e.g. ‘Claimed for art!’ or ‘Claimed for crochet!’

  • If you are taking the prompt as a starting point but envisage going completely off the grid with it, please say something about that in your claim. This acknowledges your inspiration, but also frees up the prompt for further claiming for any type of fanwork.

  • Feel free to claim more than one prompt, but please be realistic, so you’re not tying up prompts that won’t end up getting filled.

Importantly: Claiming will remain open until the check-in date, so do come back for more when you’re ready! You might find some new prompts are there, waiting for good homes.

If you plan to create a fanwork based on your own ideas, you might like to add a comment to the POST YOUR PROMPTS! CLAIM THE PROMPTS! post to let us know. But that’s optional, if you’d rather surprise us.

Feel free to discuss your work with whoever you need to, whether the original prompter, your friends, or me.

The next formal date is 14 April 2018 for creators to check in and claim a posting date.

Huzzah! Claim, create, and have oodles of fun!

Please read the Prompts and Claims Guidelines before you post a prompt.

update: The original idea was that prompts would close on 13 January. However, I think it's better to go for more and merrier, so prompting can remain open, at least for now.

Post each prompt in a new comment directly under this post.

Copy-and-paste the template provided in the box at the bottom of this post.

Complete the template with the essentials of your prompt. (Try not to be too prescriptive. Leave room for the creator to be creative.)

  • Character(s) and/or Pairing(s): Who is most involved in the story and/or who is involved with whom…? Focus on the main character(s), and any secondary character(s) with a key role.

  • Time and/or Place: When and where is this set? Are they still filming Merlin, is it set before then or since then, does it take place in an imaginary future – or is it an alternate version of any of those?

  • Prompt: Provide a succinct description of the key element(s) of your prompt, including any relevant trope(s).

Here is a promo banner for the fest! (I made it myself, sorry.)

Please feel free to share wherever you would like to. Copy the HTML code from the text box below the image, and paste it where appropriate.

If other fests and communities would like some reciprocal promo, that would be wonderful!

Types of Fanworks

All kinds of fanworks are accepted, as long as they meet the following requirements.

  • Fic: A minimum of 1,000 words is required for fiction. The piece must be complete, and it must stand alone (even if it relates to other work).

  • Drabble set: This is defined as a set of three (or more) drabbles, each a minimum of 100 words, and all relating to one prompt or overall theme. The set must be complete, and must be able to stand alone.

  • Art: This includes traditional, graphic, manips, and so on. At least one completed piece must be submitted. If the artist wishes, they can ALSO post related drafts and sketches.

  • Icon set: This is defined as a set of ten (or more) icons, all relating to one prompt or overall theme. The set must be complete.

  • Fanmix: A minimum of ten songs with a theme. This must have a little blurb explaining the choice of songs, and related ‘cover’ art is always welcome.

  • Fanvid: A minimum of 90 seconds in length.

  • Other: Any other fanworks (such as podfics, crafts, manual arts, and so on) are very welcome. These fanworks should be substantial in ways equivalent to the above requirements. Please use the comments on this post if you want to share details, ask for collaborators or advice, or have questions for the mod.

As previously stated: “Prompts can be claimed by any creator for any kind of fanwork. However, each claim for a particular prompt must be for a different kind of fanwork.” The above list indicates what counts as different kinds of fanworks. For example, a prompt can be claimed for both fic AND a drabble set, for both art AND an icon set. When it comes to ‘other’ fanworks, go with a common sense approach – or ask the mod to clarify!

Content

The goal here is to be as inclusive as possible. All ‘characters’ and all pairings / moresomes are welcome. All ratings. All genres, tropes and kinks.

Let’s try to include the rare pairs and lower profile ‘characters’ as well as the more popular.

Let’s also include general and ‘character’-related work as well as romantic / sexual relationships.

Fusions and crossovers are welcome – as well as dealing with work, characters and relationships outside the Merlin family – as long as at least one of the main characters is a Merlin actor.

Creators

You can create as many fanworks as you want for the fest.

Given the informal nature of this fest, you are not required to have your work edited or betaed. However, it’s very much encouraged, if you can! (I know my own work is always better for it.)

You can contribute a fanwork anonymously.

Collaborations between creators are very welcome.

Creators can contribute their own independent fanworks based on their own ideas, without claiming or following any prompts.

Posting

A posting schedule will be agreed once creators start checking in.

On your posting date, you can post your fanwork to your own journal, to your AO3 / tumblr / deviantart account, or to any other platform. However, you must also post to this community, in the agreed format, with a link to where the fanwork is hosted. (Details to follow.)

An AO3 collection is available for the fest, including an anonymous collection. (Details to follow.)

Fanworks must be created specifically for this fest, and must not appear on any platform before your posting date. However, once you have completed the requirements of this fest, you can then cross-post the fanwork with other challenges.

Each creator must adhere to the fest rules and schedule, or the creator will not be able to post their work as part of this fest.

Prompting

There will be a separate post where you can leave your prompts.

Anyone can leave a prompt. You are NOT required to also create a fanwork if you have left a prompt. (We all contribute in different, valuable ways.)

You can prompt anonymously.

You can leave as many prompts as you like. (Perhaps, however, quality counts for more than quantity…?)

Claiming

Anyone can claim a prompt and contribute a fanwork. You are NOT required to have also left a prompt.

Prompts can be claimed by any creator for any kind of fanwork. However, each claim for a particular prompt must be for a different kind of fanwork. That is, if one creator has claimed a prompt for art, then any other creator wanting to claim that prompt must claim it for fic, a drabble set, an icon set, interpretive knitting, or a mosaic, and so on.

You can contribute a fanwork anonymously.

Collaborations between creators are very welcome.

Creators can claim their own prompts, if they wish. (Though perhaps wait and see if anyone else responds first…?)

Creators can contribute their own independent fanworks based on their own ideas, without claiming or following any prompts.

Creators can post as many fanworks as they like. (Again, though, perhaps quality counts for more than quantity?)

Entering into the Spirit of Things

The purpose of prompts is to share ideas, or brainstorm, and encourage the fun.

Prompts should not be overly specific or detailed. They should be given freely, without ‘likes’ or ‘dislikes’ or caveats.

A participant isn’t necessarily creating their fanwork FOR a prompter, but for the community. However, creators and prompters are free to discuss particular ideas and details, if they both wish.

Variations on a prompt are allowed. However, if the creator is heading off into significantly different territory, this should be flagged in the claim or subsequent comments. If another creator then wants to take a more literal approach, they can claim the prompt for any kind of fanwork.

(I am particularly grateful to emjayelle for helping set the tone here!)

Let’s make this as inclusive as possible. All ‘characters’ and all pairings / moresomes are welcome. All ratings. All genres, tropes and kinks.

I’d love this to include the rare pairs and lower profile ‘characters’ as well as the more popular.

Hello, everyone, and apologies for the unintended silence over past months. Life is good but everything is changing, which somehow feels like 'a quick succession of busy nothings' and little time to devote to the fun stuff.

Our prompt fest of 2016 was a lovely success, so I am planning to hold another one along the same lines, starting early in the new year. As always, any thoughts or feedback will be welcome!

In the meantime, I hope you are all enjoying the festive season, whether or however you celebrate, and that 2018 is looking good for you and yours.

Hello, everyone!

Well, our mini bang was rather quiet, though I am still in hopes of one more entry being posted when Real Life allows.

I am planning to run another prompt fest, probably from September, unless anyone comes up with any different ideas / suggestions / reasons to change that. The one we ran last year generated a nice amount of activity, so let's hope the same (or more) happens again!

All thoughts welcome! I'll see you in the comments. :-)
